LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has shared his views on obesity, claiming that overweight people face disadvantages in both society and the pursuit of wealth.
The entertainer argued that physical appearance heavily influences how people are treated, insisting that attractive individuals often receive better opportunities than those who are obese.
According to him, excess weight can even affect a person’s chances of getting hired at a job.
“No rich is for fat people. If you are fat, you can never be rich in this life. No be mean, no be joke, I’m telling you the truth,” the singer said.
Using an example, Speed Darlington explained why he would refuse to employ an overweight hairstylist.

“I won’t hire you, you can’t braid my hair. I don’t care how African you are, you can’t braid my hair because I got to worry about all that weight on my head. All that fatness on my head. So I’m not going to give you work,” Speed Darlington stated.
The singer went on to argue that beauty plays a significant role in determining success, claiming society naturally favours people it considers physically attractive.
“The world is for beautiful people, it’s not for ugly people,” he added.
He also suggested that obese people struggle with fashion, saying, “If you obese, nothing you wear fits you well. So your dress code is sloppy. This means you’re always in sweatpants, all the time.”
The controversial comments ended with another sweeping claim about wealth and public perception.
“If we don’t like you, we won’t favour you. If you huge, you are not going to be a billionaire. Guaranteed. The world is not nice to fat people,” the singer concluded.
