LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Mikel Oyarzabal scored a brace as Spain showed their superiority against Austria with a 3-0 victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 32.
Spain dominated the encounter early on, but they didn’t get their opener until the 36th minute.
New Real Madrid signing Marc Cucurella sent a low cross to Mikel Oyarzabal who hit it low first time.
The easy finish which rolled into the back of the net marked the attacker’s third goal of the tournament.
La Roja resumed the second half with the same intensity they showed in the first 45.
They finally got their reward in the 66th minute.

Cucurella was involved again as he won the ball on the edge of the box before sending it down to a waiting Baena on the left.
Baena ran with the ball then sent a cross to Pedro Porro whose bullet header crashed past the keeper.
In the 89th minute, Oyarzabal put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the match.
He latched on to another wonderful cross from Cucurella before burying his chance and sealing Austria’s fate.
The result now meant the Spain won a World Cup knockout match for the first time since the 2010 final and, in doing so, have booked their place in the last-16.
They will now face the winner between Portugal or Croatia in Dallas on Monday, July 6.
