LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Following the recent job insecurity plaguing head coaches in the FIFA World Cup, Former Japan International, Keisuke Honda has offered himself to the Japan Football Association (JFA) to take over as head coach of the national team, Voice of Naija – VONa Communications reports.
Following reports that the JFA were set to offer Hajime Moriyasu a one-year contract extension, Keisuke expressed his interest in the Japan role with a post on X.
“I know this might be controversial,but let me say it anyway.
“I saw the news that they’re offering Coach Hajime Moriyasu a one-year contract extension, but if it’s just a stopgap offer because they can’t find any other candidates for the next coach, then why not try me for a year?” Keisuke wrote on X.
The 40-year-old also promised to win the Asian Cup if entrusted with the role, he added that if he failed to win, the JFA could sack him.
“If we lose the Asian Cup, you can fire me without any questions asked.
“I’m ready to take on that challenge, the Ex- AC Milan midfielder concluded.
Keisuke made his debut for the Blue Samurais in 2008; he played in 98 games while scoring 37 goals during his international career
Honda who is renowned for his leadership, vision, and ability to deliver in big matches has also worked as a coach and manager, notably serving as general manager of the Cambodia national team.
He will hope his plethora of achievements is enough to convince the JFA to make him the new head coach
