LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian singer Portable has taken aim at some of the country’s biggest artists, claiming that wealth and fame have affected their creativity and urging them to return to making songs that inspire people and promote positive values.
The outspoken artiste made the remarks in a video shared online, arguing that wealth and fame have pulled several top musicians away from making songs with lyrical depth that praise God or reflect the everyday realities of ordinary Nigerians.
Portable specifically mentioned Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Olamide, stating that their recent songs no longer offer motivation or life lessons for listeners.
The “Zazu” crooner maintained that the success enjoyed by the aforementioned music stars may have contributed to the change in the themes of their music.

“I noticed that Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Olamide don’t praise God in their songs, they only sing about ladies. Is it because they already have money and they believe they can’t fall?” Portable asked.
Portable argued that music should do more than entertain, insisting it should also encourage people and promote positive values.
“Their songs have no motivation. No sensible lyrics. Just women and vanity,” he added.
He also challenged his colleagues to produce more conscious and gospel-inspired music, saying listeners have grown tired of songs focused solely on materialism and pleasure.
“Make conscious music. We are tired of all those songs about frivolities. I am also a musician. You all should do better,” he stated.
