LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he quit acting in 2019 because he was frustrated by poor pay and a lack of fulfillment, saying the decision pushed him back into a regular 9-to-5 job before he eventually returned to the screen.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the CreativiTea podcast, the movie star reflected on his journey in-out and back to Nollywood.
Okanlawon said his decision was driven by poor remuneration and the feeling that the quality of work no longer matched the passion that drew him into the profession.

“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay was nonsense, the work was nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9–5 work to come and do mediocre work. It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work,” the actor said.
Although Okanlawon stepped away from acting at the time, he later returned to Nollywood, where he has continued to build a successful career and remains one of the industry’s most recognizable leading men.
