ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigeria can only realise its full potential by raising a new generation of responsible, competent and visionary leaders committed to selfless service, good governance and national development.
Obi stated this in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday after interacting with students of Madonna University, Okija Campus, during the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative themed, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”
According to him, the interactive session provided an opportunity to engage with young Nigerians whose questions reflected widespread frustration over poor governance and corruption, challenges he said had denied many citizens the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Despite those concerns, Obi said he was inspired by the optimism, resilience and determination displayed by the students to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s future.
He stressed that leadership remains the single most important factor in a nation’s development, adding that effective leaders must possess character, competence, capacity and compassion, as well as the willingness to make sacrifices for the common good.

Obi maintained that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who are committed to protecting lives, investing in education, creating opportunities for citizens and building strong institutions capable of driving sustainable development.
He urged the students to take their education seriously and prepare themselves for future leadership responsibilities, encouraging them to see themselves not merely as observers but as active agents of change.
According to him, meaningful participation in the democratic process would enable young Nigerians to elect leaders with integrity, competence and the vision needed to move the country forward.
As part of his commitment to education, Obi presented a cheque of N15 million to Madonna University to support its educational programmes.
He described investment in education as one of the most effective ways of developing the human capital required for national progress.
“Together, by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams that is POssible,” Obi stated.
