LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has shared why she does not consider Nigerian male celebrities as potential romantic partners.
The award-winning artiste made the revelation over the weekend, during an interview on the red carpet at the BET Awards after she was asked if she would make the first move to date trending Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
The question comes amid Okoye’s recent rise as an online heartthrob.
Clips showcasing the goalkeeper’s chiseled features, striking eyes, and curly hair during a Super Eagles match recently went viral, attracting admiration from fans across the United States, Europe and beyond.

British actress Sarah Hadland described him as “absolutely gorgeous,” while American singer Toni Braxton reacted warmly to an elderly fan’s admiration for the football star.
Responding, Tems said she knows who Okoye is but has never met him personally, stating that being fellow Nigerians makes it difficult for her to view him romantically.

She explained that her male colleagues are either firmly in the friend zone or regarded as family, leaving no room for romance.
“I know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here. We [Nigerian celebrities] friend each others and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers,” Tems responded.
The singer, who has continued to enjoy global success with multiple international awards and collaborations, has largely kept her private life away from the spotlight despite frequent public interest in her relationship status.
