ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The Ekiti State Government has approved the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings, provided the books remain in good condition, as part of measures to reduce the financial burden on parents.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, Mr Bayode Ogunmola, said the state’s textbook review policy remains unchanged.
Ogunmola said in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday, “The government has approved the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings, provided the books remain in good condition, as part of efforts to make education more affordable for families across the state.”
According to him, under the book review policy, “primary school textbooks are to be reviewed once every six years, while the review cycle for secondary school textbooks has been extended from once every three years to once every four years, subject to the guidelines of the National Educational Research and Development Council.”

The ministry also reaffirmed that “the ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils and students in kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools, both public and private, remains in force.
“The policy, which took effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, was introduced to reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians and curb the social pressure and excesses often associated with such ceremonies.”
The ministry emphasised that the policies remain in effect and that there are no plans to reverse them.
It therefore directed school proprietors, administrators, parents and other stakeholders “to comply fully with the directives, warning that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on violators.”
The ministry thanked stakeholders for their continued cooperation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making education more accessible, affordable and beneficial to every child in Ekiti State.
