LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress Ayobami Ojo has opened up about the painful experiences she says she has faced because of her profession, revealing that being labelled an actress has allegedly affected her business opportunities, relationships and property deals.
In a viral video making the rounds online, the actress said she has become tired of the negative stereotypes attached to women in the entertainment industry and no longer wants to be judged simply because she is an actress.
According to Ojo, she once lost the chance to buy a piece of land in Lagos after the seller’s wife allegedly opposed the deal because of her profession.
She also claimed that another landlord refused to rent a property to her for business purposes after discovering she worked as an actress.

Speaking further, she stated that the prejudice has also affected her personal life.
The actress alleged that relatives and friends of a man she was interested in reportedly advised him against marrying her because she is in Nollywood.
“What exactly did we do to you people?” Ojo asked, insisting that she has never been involved in any major scandal or wrongdoing that would justify such treatment.
Ojo further criticized what she described as the unfair generalization of actresses, arguing that many people judge women in the entertainment industry based on assumptions rather than their individual character.
Reflecting on her journey, the actress noted that she has worked hard to build a comfortable life, including spending long hours working in the United Kingdom to earn money and enjoy the fruits of her labour.

“I am just a girl who loves to enjoy life. I have suffered growing up and I want to spend my money and enjoy my money,” she stated.
Fighting back tears, she added that she is exhausted by the constant criticism and discrimination directed at actresses.
Ojo maintained that society is often quick to celebrate entertainers when they succeed but equally quick to condemn and bully them whenever they make mistakes.
She ended her message by appealing to Nigerians to stop judging actresses through the lens of stereotypes, insisting that many women in the industry are simply hardworking professionals pursuing their talents and careers.
