LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Stella Okafor, the widow of late Nollywood legend Mr Ibu, has responded to allegations that she secretly sold her husband’s properties, insisting the transactions were approved by family members to fund his burial.
Speaking in an interview with content creator King Mitchy, Stella said the sale of the actor’s land and house was a collective family decision rather than an individual action.
She explained that the proceeds were used to finance Mr Ibu’s burial.
Stella explained that she worked alongside two of the actor’s sons, Valentine and Daniel Okafor, in selling the Enugu property.
“That land that was sold in Enugu, three of us sold that land because of the burial. It was N17 million. Go and ask the children,” she said.
She also rejected accusations that she independently disposed of one of the late actor’s houses.
“We sold the house. I am not the one who sold the house. We sold the house,” Stella insisted.

Her response comes shortly after she appealed for financial assistance, revealing that she and her children had been living without electricity for two months and that the children had stopped attending school because of unpaid fees.
The public appeal reportedly attracted more than ₦7 million in donations.
However, the fundraising campaign sparked criticism from some members of Mr Ibu’s family.
His third son, Somtochukwu Okafor, alleged that Stella had sold several of the late actor’s properties after his passing despite claiming financial hardship.
Similarly, actor Tenkobo questioned her public appeal, accusing her of using Mr Ibu’s name to attract sympathy and financial support.
The dispute intensified after a woman identifying herself as Mr Ibu’s first wife accused Stella of mismanaging family assets and selling properties without consulting the wider family.
She also alleged that Stella played a role in the arrest of two relatives during the actor’s prolonged illness.
Responding to the growing family controversy, Stella claimed she was unaware that Mr Ibu had been married before they met.

She said her husband never introduced the people she later discovered were his children from an earlier relationship.
“My husband never told me that he was married before. Even the first son, I keep seeing him in the house. My husband never for one day told me that he was his son,” she stated.
She further alleged that the late actor fathered children with another woman during their marriage.
Mr Ibu, one of Nollywood’s most celebrated comic actors, died in March 2024 after battling a prolonged illness.
Nearly two years later, disagreements over his estate and family affairs continue to fuel public debate, with both sides standing firmly by their claims.
