LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian woman Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack has crossed the 100-hour mark in her bid to set a Guinness World Record for the longest Holy Bible reading marathon, drawing support from worshippers and social media users.
The challenge, tagged “144 Hours in the Word,” began on June 22 at Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and is scheduled to end on July 2, in line with Guinness World Records (GWR) guidelines.
Having already surpassed the 100-hour milestone, Habibat has entered the final stage of the endurance challenge, with supporters gathering to cheer her on throughout the event.
Videos circulating online show her reading the Bible aloud from a lectern and desk while digital timers monitor her progress.
The organizers stated that the attempt follows Guinness World Records regulations, which require participants to read continuously aloud, with only limited breaks allowed for essential needs.
Habibat, a member of The Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, described the marathon as more than a record attempt, saying it is a faith-driven mission designed to encourage people to engage more deeply with the Bible.
Her Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, also threw his weight behind the initiative, describing it as a spiritual project focused on glorifying God’s Word rather than simply chasing a world record.

Notably, the marathon has continued to attract encouragement from family members, church members and friends, while also generating attention on social media amid Nigeria’s growing interest in endurance-based Guinness World Record attempts.
Habibat’s bid comes months after Nigerian Samson Ajao earned official recognition from GWR in 2024 for setting the world’s longest marathon reading aloud.
The 27-year-old from Ibadan read continuously for 215 hours, breaking the previous record of 124 hours set by Kyrgyzstan’s Rysbai Isakov in 2022.
His achievement and Habibat’s if successful joins a growing list of record-setting feats by Nigerians.
