ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has intensified preparations for future elections with the launch of a nationwide youth and women mobilisation campaign, saying the initiative is expected to build a voter support base of at least 10 million people across the country.

The opposition party said the newly established structures are central to its strategy of rebuilding its grassroots network, expanding its electoral reach and drawing more young Nigerians, particularly women, into active political participation.

Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration of the PDP National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum for the Survival of Democracy in Nigeria and the PDP Female Youth Wing in Abuja, the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, urged young women to take politics seriously and disregard reports suggesting the PDP is divided.

He told participants that the era of attending political events merely for entertainment or souvenirs was over, insisting that the party was now focused on achieving measurable political results.

“Do not see this gathering as a jamboree. Those days of attending events just to collect T-shirts and socialize are gone. Today, we are focused on purpose and results,” he said.

Anyanwu said the PDP was committed to nurturing a new generation of female leaders by creating opportunities for young women to contest and occupy elective offices, including councillorships, local government chairmanships, legislative seats and other public positions.

“The future is in your hands. Whatever a man can do, a woman can do even better,” he said.

The PDP scribe also unveiled plans to establish a coordinated female youth mobilisation network across the country, revealing that the party aims to engage at least 5,000 young women in every state within the next three months.

Explaining the strategy, he said the party would work through local government structures to build a formidable grassroots political base.

“We are planning a structured mobilisation strategy. For example, if we engage female youths across all 27 local government areas in a state and mobilise at least 50 women per local government, we will build a strong political base,” Anyanwu stated.

He further encouraged young women to deploy social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp to promote political awareness, mobilise supporters and deepen civic engagement ahead of future elections.

Responding to persistent speculation over internal disagreements within the party, Anyanwu maintained that the PDP remained united and fully functional under its recognised leadership.

“Ignore claims of division. The PDP remains united under its recognised leadership, and our women and youth structures are active and functional under the appropriate leadership,” he said.

Earlier, the PDP National Youth Leader, Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, said in a statement that the newly inaugurated youth and women structures formed part of a broader nationwide mobilisation strategy designed to significantly expand the party’s electoral support.

According to Bala-Aboki, the organisational framework and clearly defined responsibilities assigned to members would help position the PDP to attract no fewer than 10 million votes nationwide.

“With this robust structure and clearly defined responsibilities, we project that the PDP can build a voter support base of not less than ten million votes, all things being equal,” he stated.

The PDP expressed confidence that the mobilisation drive would strengthen its grassroots presence, energise its youth and women wings and improve the party’s chances of mounting a stronger electoral challenge in future elections.
