LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Fresh controversy has erupted within the family of late Nollywood icon John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, after one of his sons publicly accused the actor’s widow, Stella Maris Okafor, of taking control of his properties despite recently appealing for financial assistance online.
The latest development comes days after influencer and philanthropist King Mitchy visited Stella and her children.
During the visit, Stella claimed the family was battling serious financial hardship, revealing that they had been unable to pay their house rent, their children had stopped attending school because of unpaid fees, and they had resorted to fetching water from a well.
She also disclosed that electricity had been disconnected for about two months, forcing the family to depend on others to charge their phones while struggling to meet daily needs.

However, reacting to those claims, a young man identifying himself as one of Mr Ibu’s sons alleged that the late actor had left behind several properties for all of his children before his death.
According to him, Stella allegedly took possession of the assets for herself and her children despite the inheritance belonging to the entire family.
He further claimed that she sold one of Mr Ibu’s houses in Lagos for ₦60 million, another Lagos property for over ₦17 million, and a property in Asaba for ₦11 million.
The son also alleged that Stella mismanaged more than ₦66 million donated by members of the public during the veteran actor’s prolonged illness before his death.
The accusations have reignited an already strained family dispute.

During his lifetime, he was married five times, with four of the marriages ending in separation or divorce while Stella Maris Okafor was his fifth and final wife before his death.
