ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-} Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered further momentum on Thursday as the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Kano.
Kwankwaso, who was accompanied by the NDC governorship candidate for Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, met with the former president at his temporary residence in Kano, where Obasanjo is currently on an official assignment.
The visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan.
According to the statement, the meeting was purely a courtesy call and provided an opportunity for cordial interactions between the prominent political figures.
“His Excellency, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, PhD, FNSE, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, this night paid a courtesy visit to a statesman and former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his temporary residence in Kano,” the statement read.

Hassan noted that Kwankwaso and Gwarzo were warmly received by the former president during the visit.
Although the statement did not disclose the details of their discussions, it described the meeting as one marked by warm exchanges between the political leaders.
The meeting comes at a time of heightened political consultations and strategic engagements across the country as political parties and key actors intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, neither Kwankwaso’s camp nor Obasanjo’s associates indicated that the visit was connected to any political alliance, coalition talks or electoral strategy.
The meeting has nevertheless attracted attention, given the growing realignments and consultations currently shaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
