LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeats singer Spyro has accused Nigerian religious leaders of staying silent on insecurity and economic hardship because they benefit from the country’s worsening condition.
During a recent interview on Wazobia FM Lagos, Spyro argued that religious leaders have a duty to address the harsh realities affecting their congregations, especially rising insecurity and the worsening economy.
He said many pastors and clerics have failed to use their platforms to guide people on issues that go beyond spirituality, including personal safety and responsible voting.

“Nigerian religious leaders should speak up against insecurity. They should tell the people on how to secure themselves and include the issue of insecurity in their sermons,” the singer said.
The singer stated that they should be educating their members on how to protect themselves and helping them make better political decisions during elections.
“They should also give their congregants proper electoral orientations. Unfortunately, they are not doing that because the more the country is spoiling, the more money they make. Anywhere there is a crisis in a country, the people who benefit the most are religious leaders. We should make sure we hold all our leaders, including clerics, accountable,” Spyro stated.
