LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Content creator Layi Wasabi has opened up about his journey as a Wizkid fan, revealing how his taste in the singer’s music changed when his own life got better.

Speaking about his longtime admiration for the Afrobeats star, Layi said he had been a Wizkid supporter from the early days of the singer’s career.

He recalled how deeply invested he was in the Wizkid versus Davido debates during his school years, a rivalry that shaped many conversations among fans at the time.

However, his connection to Wizkid’s music later shifted when the singer began embracing a calmer, more reflective sound.

Layi admitted that he struggled with that phase because he was more drawn to songs that spoke to hustle, hardship and ambition.

Explaining the change in his outlook, the content creator said his own growth and wealth made him reconnect with that side of Wizkid’s catalogue in a new way.

“I was a Wizkid fan from the beginning. I had a lot of argument in school because of Wizkid & Davido. When he started making soft music, I kept complaining that I need to hear the struggle but I started to enjoy Wizkid’s music again when life got better for me,” Layi said.

He maintained that Wizkid’s mellow records did not change, it was his own reality that did and that shift made the music land differently.
