LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Content creator King Mitchy has stirred sympathy online after revealing the difficult conditions she allegedly found during a visit to the family of late Nollywood star John Okafor, known widely as Mr Ibu.
Mitchy claimed that some of the late actor’s children are no longer in school because the family is struggling financially.
Reportedly, Mr Ibu’s 14-year-old daughter and his younger sons, aged 12 and 10, had dropped out due to a lack of money for their education.
She also alleged that the household had been dealing with severe hardship beyond school fees.
According to her, the family disclosed they had been without electricity for months and had been fetching water from a neighbourhood well because they could not afford basic utilities.
Mitchy further claimed there were unpaid rent issues hanging over the home.

Expressing sadness over the situation, the content creator said it was painful to see the family of such a beloved comic actor living in hardship despite the joy he brought to millions of Nigerians through his movies.
“This is the family of a legend. Not just anybody. I don’t know for you, but for me Mr Ibu made my childhood fun. I loved to watch his movies. Him and Aki and Paw Paw now that he is gone his family should not be suffering. We are donating for the children to go back to school and for their house rent to be paid,” Mitchy said in part.
Her video has since sparked an outpouring of sympathy online, with many fans calling for support for the children and urging stakeholders, including the Actors Guild of Nigeria, to step in.
Others also questioned what happened to previous public donations and support previously raised for the late actor during his health crisis.
Mr Ibu died in March 2024 at the age of 62 after suffering from constant blood clotting and diseased blood vessels in his leg which later led to a leg amputation.
Widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most iconic comic actors, he built a decades-long career entertaining audiences with his humour, expressive acting and unforgettable screen presence.
