Akin Olaiya’s Wife Nafisat Alleges Domestic Violence After Marriage Crashes

LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Fresh drama has trailed the collapse of actor Akin Olaiya’s marriage after his estranged wife, Nafisat, accused him of domestic violence and mistreatment while reacting to the actor’s public divorce statement.

The controversy began after a statement announcing the end of the couple’s marriage surfaced online earlier this week.

In the statement, Olaiya reportedly claimed that Nafisat left their matrimonial home without his knowledge and refused to return despite efforts to reconcile.

However, Nafisat has now challenged that version of events.

In a viral video shared on Wednesday, the newlywed said she did not simply walk away from the marriage without reason.

According to her, she left just a few months after the wedding because she was in pain and could no longer endure what she described as violence in the home.

“Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence,” she said.

Nafisat also revealed that she and the actor had actually been separated since last year, contrary to the fresh public attention now surrounding the divorce.

Responding to questions about why a wife would suddenly leave her husband, she insisted that people online did not know what had truly happened behind closed doors.

“All the things that they’re talking on social media about the divorce letter, yeah for real, me and my husband are not together anymore for like a long time ago, since last year. For those of you saying how can the wife just pack and leave when she’s not mad? When there’s violence and something is really going on that you don’t really know about,” Nafisat stated.

She went on to suggest that she had expected maturity and understanding from the actor because of the age difference between them, but things did not turn out that way.

“I’m expecting a lot from my ex-husband when I was with him because he’s older than me. The age gap is much. Yet everything was going down, and I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage with him. That is what I can never do on social media,” she added.

While she refused to disclose every detail of what happened in the marriage, Nafisat maintained that it was unfair for anyone to present her exit as if it happened without cause.

“But what I’m trying to let you know is that it does not make sense for him to say she just packed her things and left without any issues. It can’t be possible. You guys should just think about it and see if it makes sense,” Nafisat noted.

The marriage had already drawn attention from the start. When the couple tied the knot in July 2025, clips from the ceremony went viral after many social media users noticed that Nafisat appeared unusually serious while Olaiya danced excitedly during the celebration.

Reportedly, the marriage ended in less than five months, with the allegations also reviving discussion about Olaiya’s past, as his first marriage was said to have collapsed amid claims of violence and infidelity.

So far, the actor has not publicly responded to Nafisat’s allegations of domestic violence.
