ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Ogun State has attracted a $250 million investment into its agricultural sector, following plans by Pure Dairy Herds to establish a large-scale dairy farm in the state.

The company’s representative, Farouk Gumel, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, according to a statement.

Gumel said the company is collaborating with international experts to develop a dairy farm designed to boost local milk production and enhance Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

He noted that the company had concluded the acquisition of land for the project in Ogun West Senatorial District, clearing the path for development work to begin.

According to him, Ogun State was selected because of its investor-friendly policies, conducive business climate and ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly in Ogun West.

He also praised the host communities for their support and hospitality, describing the area as ideal for large-scale dairy operations.

“Ogun is the best. We already have a few operations in Ogun State, and this project is a testament to how well we have been received and treated,” he said.

“We are fortunate to have Ogun State as our host, and we are particularly excited about moving into Ogun West, which holds great promise, especially with the critical infrastructure projects taking place in the area.

For now, we are looking at an initial investment of $250 million, but as we continue to expand, that figure is expected to increase.”

Gumel added that arrangements were being finalised for the groundbreaking ceremony of the dairy farm, which is expected to hold within the next two to three weeks.

The project is expected to boost local dairy production, generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in Ogun West.
