Desmond Elliot Says He Doesn’t Steal Public Funds

LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has declared himself an honest politician, while also defending his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and calling for a long-term plan for Nigeria’s democracy.

Elliot made the remark during an appearance on The Morayo Show, where he spoke about his record in office, his political choices and why he has remained aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the interview, the Lagos lawmaker said his time representing Surulere Constituency I has brought visible changes, especially in electricity supply within the area.

He also used the conversation to draw a line between himself and the type of public officials often accused of looting government money.

The actor, who has also served in the Lagos State House of Assembly, went on to explain why he has stayed politically loyal to Tinubu, whom he referred to as Asiwaju.

According to him, switching allegiance to other major political figures would not necessarily make him different.

“I ask myself, if I leave Asiwaju and I go to Obi, what is different from Asiwaju and Obi? If I leave Obi and I go to Atiku, what’s my difference?” he said.

Elliot also argued that Nigeria needs a more deliberate political structure instead of leadership changing direction every few years.

In his view, the country should build a long-term development plan that outlives individual administrations.

“We have to define our own style of democracy. Let’s have a 30-year plan, for instance,” Elliot added.

Speaking further on governance, the former actor stressed that public office is temporary and urged politicians to remember that power does not last forever.

The interview comes months after Elliot’s own political future hit a setback. He had initially picked up a nomination form to seek a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, but later pulled out of the APC primary in May 2026, citing intimidation and an unfair process.

He eventually lost the party ticket, bringing his bid to continue representing Surulere Constituency I to an end.
