ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of financial misappropriation during his tenure in office.

Sources within the anti-corruption agency disclosed that the visit was linked to an ongoing probe into Okowa’s administration as governor of Delta State.

The former governor was previously arrested by the EFCC in November 2024 over allegations that about N1.3 trillion was diverted during his eight-year tenure as governor.

He was also accused of using public funds to acquire properties in Asaba, the Delta State capital, and Abuja.

Following his arrest, Okowa defended his administration, insisting that state resources were properly utilised throughout his time in office and expressing confidence in the investigative process.

“I am not worried, and I have spoken about it. I am not afraid to be investigated,” he said at the time, while alleging that some sections of the media had subjected him to trial by publicity.

The former governor maintained that his administration worked within the resources available to provide services to the people.

“I may not be a saint, but I know I stepped in there as governor with a full hope and desire to help people,” he stated.

Okowa served as governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He later emerged as the vice-presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general election alongside Atiku Abubakar.

In April 2025, Okowa defected to the All Progressives Congress together with his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several other political stakeholders in Delta State.

The latest visit to the EFCC office comes as investigations into the allegations surrounding his administration continue.
