ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Lagos State University has unveiled a Tier-Three data centre under its Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (LASU-ACEITSE), in a move aimed at strengthening digital learning, research capacity and cybersecurity across the institution.
The facility was officially commissioned on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Complex, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos, by the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM.
Speaking at the ceremony, Olatunji-Bello described the project as a key milestone in the university’s transformation agenda, noting that LASU’s pursuit of excellence extends beyond academic instruction to the development of robust digital

“Excellence at LASU is not just about lecture halls and grades. It is about building systems that make teaching, learning, and research seamless,” she said. “This data centre is proof that LASU is investing in the future. We are committed to leveraging technology to improve every part of the university experience.”
The Director and Centre Leader of LASU-ACEITSE, Professor Rasheed Sanni, said the facility addresses critical infrastructure gaps in data management and digital learning within the Nigerian university system.
“This data centre gives LASU the capacity to host large research datasets, power uninterrupted digital learning, and protect sensitive student and staff information. It positions our researchers and students to compete globally,” he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, said the centre would enhance service delivery across the institution’s digital platforms by reducing downtime, strengthening data security and improving access to online academic and administrative services, including examinations and research tools.
Following the remarks, Olatunji-Bello led members of the university management and deans on a tour of the facility and performed the official tape-cutting ceremony.
In a vote of thanks, the Senior Deputy Registrar and Administrative Secretary of LASU-ACEITSE, Mr. Michael Tadopede, expressed appreciation to the university management and project partners for the successful delivery of the infrastructure.
The Tier-Three certified data centre is designed to meet global standards for uptime, redundancy and security.
It will serve as the backbone for LASU’s e-learning platforms, research data storage, administrative systems and student services, with additional potential for revenue generation.
With the commissioning of the facility, LASU joins a select group of Nigerian universities with enterprise-grade digital infrastructure aimed at expanding research output, improving 24-hour e-learning access and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities.
