LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian singer Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has opened up about the reason behind his disappearance from the music scene after years away from the spotlight.
Speaking during a recent livestream with streamer Carter Efe, the “Omo Alhaji” hitmaker revealed that his break from music was intentional and aimed at helping him focus on personal development.
YCee who took a five-year break said that he stepped back from the industry to embark on a journey of self-discovery, a period he spent on a mountaintop, knowing himself deeply.
However, he assured fans that he is now ready to return to making music.
“I have been on the mountain. I went on a journey of self-discovery. But I am back,” he said.

The singer also shed light on the story behind his popular nickname, “Omo Alhaji.”
He explained that the title is connected to his family background, noting that his father is a Muslim, even though he does not actively practise the religion himself.
The ‘Juice’ hitmaker also spoke briefly about his personal beliefs, saying that his spiritual outlook is guided by one simple principle, “love.”
Before taking a break from the industry, YCee established himself as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated music stars, delivering hit songs such as ‘Jagaban,’ ‘My Side,’ and ‘Omo Alhaji.’
His unique style and chart-topping records helped make him a household name during the peak of his career.
With his latest 14-track second studio album, Out of Sight, Out of Mind (Vol. 1), released on June 12, 2026, fans are eager to mark his successful return to the spotlight.
