LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has announced that all proceeds from the release of one of her films featuring late Alex Ekubo will be donated to the family of the late actor, describing the gesture as a tribute to their long-standing friendship.
The announcement came shortly after Alex Ekubo was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, following a series of funeral events attended by family, friends, and colleagues from the entertainment industry.
Several notable figures, including Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, and Ayo Makun, were present to pay their final respects to the actor, whose death has continued to draw tributes from across Nollywood.

The actress revealed that she would release The First Lady, a movie that marked the beginning of her friendship with Alex more than a decade ago, on her YouTube platform.

According to her, every kobo generated from the film’s release will go directly to the late actor’s family.
Sharing the reason behind the decision, Omoni said she reached the conclusion after speaking with Alex’s family and wanting to honour his memory in a meaningful way.
“Today we are finally laying the body of our amazing bestie, brother, dearest friend. And, you know, I’ve struggled with this for a while, but I decided to just do it anyway after speaking to the family. So in honour of his memory, I am releasing The First Lady, a movie that started this whole friendship over 11, 12 years ago,” the actress wrote.
Encouraging fans to support the project, she added, “It’s on Omoni TV today. The proceeds will go to the family; I mean the entire proceeds will go to the family. So please watch, re-watch, forward to everybody you know to watch.”
The filmmaker explained that the gesture is her personal way of paying tribute to a friend whose impact on her life will never be forgotten.
“This is just another way for me to pay my respects to him and those he’s left behind. Love you all so much, besties. You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever,” she stated.
The announcement has been widely praised by fans and colleagues, many describing it as a touching tribute to Alex Ekubo’s legacy and a show of support for the family he left behind.
