LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Belgium have received a major fitness boost after winger Jérémy Doku showed significant improvement following breathing problems caused by an infection during the team’s training camp.
The Manchester City forward experienced breathing difficulties after contracting the infection before the tournament. Although he was still feeling the effects upon arriving in the United States and during Belgium’s opening match against Egypt, subsequent medical assessments have confirmed his condition is improving.
Belgium’s medical staff are now confident the 23-year-old is on course to return to full intensity as the World Cup progresses.

Doku’s recovery comes as welcome news for head coach Domenico Tedesco, with the winger regarded as one of Belgium’s most dangerous attacking outlets thanks to his pace, dribbling ability and creativity.
Belgium struggled to create width and penetrate Egypt’s defence during their opening fixture, highlighting Doku’s importance to the team’s attacking approach.
While no timeline has been given for his return to the starting lineup, the positive medical update means Belgium expect the Manchester City winger to play an increasingly important role as the tournament continues.
The coaching staff are expected to manage Doku’s workload carefully as he continues his recovery.
