LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The outpouring of tributes for late Nollywood star Alexx Ekubo has continued following his burial, with media personality Denrele Edun sharing a personal account of their final conversations.
In an emotional message posted on social media, Denrele revealed that the actor was still checking on his friends and offering words of comfort even while seriously ill himself.
He stated that he recently listened to the last voice note Alexx sent him from his sick bed.
The media personality said the memory has been difficult to process because the actor was more concerned about the wellbeing of others despite quietly dealing with health challenges of his own.
Sharing part of the voice note, Denrele wrote, “This is the last Voice-Note ALEXX sent me (from his sick bed). And that’s the part I’m struggling with. Because while he was carrying battles I knew nothing about, he still found the strength to reach out and comfort me. That’s who ALEXX was.”
Reflecting on how their friendship began, Denrele recalled meeting Alexx during the 2010 Mr Nigeria pageant, where the actor emerged as first runner-up.
He described him as an ambitious young man determined to leave a lasting mark in the entertainment industry.

“2010 I met ALEXX whilst judging the Mr Nigeria pageant. This ambitious 1st Runner-Up came to me determined to be more visible than the winner. Trust ALEX… He didn’t just get seen. He became unforgettable,” Denrele said.
The television personality also looked back on their last movie project together in Port Harcourt late last year.
Despite appearing physically weak at the time, Denrele said Alexx remained his cheerful self, constantly lifting the mood of cast and crew members whenever challenges arose on set.
“After we landed, everyone was expressing their vexation at the Production logistics and all. And then Alexx walked to us, frail looking but pacifying everyone. Cracking jokes. Lifting spirits. Making sure everyone was okay. Looking back now, that was his superpower,” the media personality added.
Denrele further shared fond memories of the nicknames Alexx gave his close friends, noting that the late actor affectionately called him “Rele” and often referred to him as “NNE” during phone conversations.
“To the world, I was Denrele. To him, I was ‘Rele.’ On phone calls, I was always ‘NNE!’ Those silly nicknames. Those private jokes. That’s what death steals. Not just the person. But the voice that called your name differently from everyone else,” he revealed.
The media personality also found comfort in imagining Alexx reunited with his late friend and singer Goldie Harvey, painting a touching picture of the two sharing laughter once again.
“Today, they lay my friend to rest. And somewhere, I choose to believe Goldie has already found him. The music is loud. The laughter is endless. And they’re both dancing #Skibobo while the rest of us stand here missing them terribly,” Denrele wrote.
Closing his tribute, Denrele thanked Alexx for his kindness, friendship and unwavering concern for others.
“Rest well, ALEXX. Thank you for the kindness. Thank you for the laughter. Thank you for always checking on others, even when you needed someone to check on you. P.S: It was so hard sharing this. I’ve held onto this VN since the sad announcement of his passing,” he concluded.
