LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Real Madrid are monitoring West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, although any potential move for the 21-year-old Portuguese remains dependent on several conditions.
Los Blancos have been tracking the former Sporting CP midfielder throughout the season, with West Ham reportedly valuing him in the region of €80 million to €90 million. The midfielder is also under contract until 2030, making negotiations difficult without significant squad sales from the Spanish side.
José Mourinho is said to be a strong admirer of Fernandes and has reportedly urged Real Madrid to prioritise the midfielder as part of their long-term rebuild, believing his energy, pressing ability and ball progression would suit the team’s structure.

Manchester United are also understood to be interested in Fernandes, with reports suggesting the Premier League club have already made early contact with his representatives. United manager Rúben Amorim is believed to see him as an ideal box-to-box option for his system.
Another factor in the situation is a reported relegation clause in Fernandes’ contract, which could lower his valuation significantly if West Ham were to drop out of the Premier League. In that scenario, the fee could reportedly fall to around €32 million.
For now, Real Madrid are said to remain in monitoring mode, with no formal bid submitted. Any concrete move is expected to depend on West Ham’s league status and Madrid’s own transfer outgoings.
