ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A 36-year-old security guard attached to an Islamiyya school in Jega Local Government Area, has been arrested by the Kebbi State Police Command over the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Umar Hadejia, disclosed the arrest on Wednesday during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Faruku Muhammed of the Tungar Zabarmawa area of Jega, was arrested following a complaint involving a minor from the same community.

The commissioner said the incident allegedly occurred on June 14, 2026, when the suspect reportedly lured the girl into his room within the Islamiyya school premises where he worked as a security guard.

“On 14 June 2026 at about 4:30 p.m., one Faruku Muhammed, aged 36, allegedly lured a 10-year-old girl into his room located inside an Islamiyya School where he works as a security guard,” Hadejia stated.

He noted that the matter remains under investigation and assured that the suspect would face prosecution if found culpable.

“The case is under investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly,” the commissioner added.

The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society, urging parents and guardians to promptly report cases of abuse, exploitation and other forms of criminal conduct.

Hadejia also appealed to residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at combating crime across the state.

He assured the public that all reports relating to child abuse and other criminal offences would receive the attention and seriousness they deserve.

The arrest comes as the command continues its campaign against crimes involving vulnerable persons, with authorities reaffirming their resolve to ensure justice for victims and accountability for offenders.
