LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The trial of music executive Jude Okoye and his company, Northside Music Limited, was adjourned on Wednesday after singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, did not appear before the Federal High Court in Lagos for cross-examination.

Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former manager of the now-defunct P-Square music group, is facing a seven-count charge alongside his company, Northside Music Limited, over alleged fraud involving N1.3 billion and $1 million.

Both defendants have denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

During the resumed proceedings before Justice Alexander Owoeye, counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), G.C. Akaogu, informed the court that Peter was unable to attend because his flight from Abuja to Lagos had been rescheduled.

Explaining the situation, the prosecutor said, “The witness called and told me that his flight from Abuja was rescheduled. That was why he could not make it to court today.”

Akaogu further told the court that he had already notified the defence team about the development before the hearing and requested a new date for the continuation of proceedings.

However, defence counsel Clement Onwuenwunor (SAN) questioned the explanation given by the prosecution.

While acknowledging that he had been informed of Peter’s absence, he disputed claims that the singer was unable to travel to Lagos.

“The prosecutor informed me of the development when I was at Falomo, close to the court. I complained bitterly because I ought to be in Akure for another matter,” Onwuenwunor said.

The senior lawyer went further, claiming that information available to him suggested Peter had not left Lagos at all.

“In fact, I was just told that the witness did not travel. He is in Lagos, and I do not know why the prosecutor said his flight was rescheduled,” Onwuenwunor submitted.

Despite the conflicting claims, the court did not make any ruling on the witness’s whereabouts.

Following the development, Justice Owoeye adjourned the case until September 21, 2026, for the continuation of trial proceedings.
