ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued four kidnap victims in Katsina State during ongoing military operations targeting suspected bandit hideouts.

The Katsina State Government confirmed the development, saying the victims, aged between 36 and 68, were freed during sustained offensives aimed at dismantling criminal networks linked to a notorious bandit leader identified as Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani and his gang.

According to authorities, the victims regained their freedom during coordinated security operations in locations believed to be strongholds of the criminals.

The rescued persons reportedly received immediate medical attention for gunshot wounds sustained while in captivity.

The latest operation is coming weeks after security agencies had earlier rescued the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, as part of intensified efforts to curb kidnapping and banditry in the state.

Some of the newly rescued victims were said to have previously appeared in a photograph with the late military officer during their period in captivity.

In a statement, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs said the operation reflects the commitment of security forces to dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.

The Katsina State Government praised the professionalism and bravery of the troops involved, noting that the success demonstrates renewed momentum in the fight against insecurity.

Authorities also confirmed that ongoing operations are still underway to track down the bandit leader and other members of his gang, stressing that they will be brought to justice.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents across affected communities.
