LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Tunisia have dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Tunisian Football Federation announced the decision on Monday, confirming that Mondher Kebaier will take charge of the team on an interim basis.
“An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi,” the federation said in a statement.
It added: “Plans are under way to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the national team coach on an interim basis.”

Lamouchi’s future came under intense scrutiny after Tunisia’s heavy defeat to Sweden, which followed a 5-0 loss to Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly in Brussels.
The 54-year-old Frenchman was appointed Tunisia coach in January. He previously managed Côte d’Ivoire at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the Elephants failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Kebaier now faces the task of reviving Tunisia’s campaign, with the Eagles of Carthage scheduled to take on Japan in their next Group E fixture before concluding the group stage against the Netherlands.
Tunisia will be seeking an immediate response as they attempt to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive after a disappointing start to the tournament.
