LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has issued a public apology following backlash over his controversial remarks about Igbo investments and land ownership in Lagos, a statement that sparked heated debate across social media.

The rapper found himself at the centre of an online storm after defending the role of the Igbo community in the economic growth of Lagos.

In a post on X, Illbliss highlighted the group’s involvement in commerce, trade, and real estate investments within the state.

Expressing his frustration, he wrote: “The igbos have contributed immensely to the Lagos economy! Commerce Wise! if you have a problem with it HUG A FRIGING Transformer!!! We have made massive investments in Real estate too!! other tribes have contributed too. why is it always a problem when it’s the igbos?!! why??”

However, the post quickly attracted criticism from some users.

According to the rapper, several responses included remarks telling Igbos to leave Lagos and return to what they described as their “erosion filled land.”

In reaction to those comments, Illbliss admitted that he became angry and responded with a statement that further fueled the controversy.

“We bought all your land and will resell to you,” he wrote.

The remark sparked widespread reactions online, with many users accusing the rapper of making an inflammatory claim about land ownership in Lagos.

Following the backlash, Illbliss released a statement expressing regret over his choice of words.

While maintaining his position on the contributions of the Igbo community, he acknowledged that his response may have offended some people.

“I apologise if you found my comments brash. It wasn’t intended to tarnish Lagos, a state that has accommodated us all and supported our art, our business and our growth for many years,” he said.

The “Dat Igbo Boy” crooner also spoke about what he described as recurring hostility whenever discussions arise about Igbo contributions to development outside the South-East.

“I have always been baffled at how hostile certain factions have been towards Igbos when it comes to developing areas outside the South-East,” Illbliss added.

Despite the controversy, the rapper stressed that Lagos remains a home for millions of Nigerians, including members of the Igbo community.

“We live here and it’s our home and we will always treat it as such. Thank you and stay blessed,” he stated.
