ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A disturbing case has emerged in the Federal Capital Territory involving a man who allegedly held his sister captive for about 16 months, chaining her inside a locked room until she was rescued by police.
The incident was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police of the FCT Police Command, Ahmed Sanusi, who described the situation as one of the most disturbing cases officers had handled in recent times.
According to him, the command received a distress call on June 12, 2026, reporting that a woman, identified as Grace Aniekuoku, 36, was being held in chains by her brother, Chinedu Aniekuoku.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force were immediately deployed to the residence in Katempe area of Abuja after the alert was received.
Sanusi said the suspect initially resisted police entry, prompting officers to invoke lawful powers of ingress and forced entry in order to gain access to the premises.

Once inside, officers reportedly found the victim in a severely neglected condition after being confined for over a year, living in extremely poor hygiene conditions and without adequate care.
She was immediately rescued and rushed to the hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The police commissioner added that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may have detained his sister to prevent her from asking questions about the whereabouts of her son, who had allegedly been taken away earlier.
Authorities further suspect the missing child may have been taken under unclear circumstances, raising fears of possible criminal exploitation, though investigations are still ongoing.
Sanusi confirmed that the suspect is now in custody while efforts continue to trace the missing child.
He assured that the case would be charged to court upon completion of investigations, as the police continue efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
