LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan has responded to Daddy Freeze’s criticism of Alexx Ekubo’s Service of Songs, accusing the media personality of making the event about himself instead of honouring the late actor.
The controversy began after Daddy Freeze attended the memorial event at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, on June 10.
Following the gathering, he shared a video in which he criticized the sermon and Mercy Chinwo’s performance, saying the event felt more like a concert than a memorial, prompting him to leave early.
Freeze also attracted attention for attending the all-white event in a black outfit, later explaining that he had missed the dress code information on the invitation.
His comments quickly sparked reactions online, with Mofe Duncan emerging as one of the most vocal critics.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Duncan argued that the event was never intended to be a traditional funeral but rather a night dedicated to celebrating Alexx Ekubo’s life through tributes and worship.
According to the actor, Freeze had no basis to criticize the programme after failing to comply with the dress code set by the family.
“With all due respect, Sir… the night wasn’t about you or anyone else but ALEXX,” Duncan wrote.
He further stated that Alexx’s family had made it clear that the late actor loved worship music and that the format of the event reflected what he would have wanted.
Duncan also expressed disappointment with Freeze’s public criticism, saying he felt the media personality had crossed a line.
“I’m a very objective person, and I don’t put my mouth in matters that don’t concern me, nor do I lend energy to things I have no power over. The PRAYER OF SERENITY resonates with me daily. Still, as I’ve gotten older, I deeply struggle with the urge to want to EDUCATE people who step gravely out of line, and Bros… you stepped GRAVELY out of line,” the actor stated.
The exchange has added another layer to the ongoing conversations surrounding Alexx Ekubo’s memorial, with social media users divided over whether Daddy Freeze was simply sharing his opinion or being insensitive to the wishes of the actor’s family.
