ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Three people have been killed and several houses razed after suspected bandits attacked Pissa village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, according to the state police command.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday, saying the attackers stormed the community at about 9 a.m.
Abiodun disclosed that the assailants set some houses ablaze during the invasion and were later confronted by military personnel, although details of the operation were still being compiled.
“The report received indicated that suspected bandits invaded Pissa village in Borgu LGA.
“Three persons were reportedly killed during the attack, and some houses were set ablaze.
“However, the military responded and engaged the terrorists, but further details are still sketchy,” he said.

The attack came days after the Niger State Government and the police dismissed reports of an alleged terrorist invasion that triggered panic among schoolchildren and residents in Minna, the state capital.
According to reports, rumours of an impending bandit attack caused pupils and students in several schools across Minna to abandon classes and rush home before the official closing time on Wednesday.
The panic also spread among parents, many of whom contacted school authorities to verify claims that terrorists had invaded the city and that schools had been shut down as a precaution.
In response to the concerns, the police command issued a statement reassuring residents that security agencies were on top of the situation.
Abiodun had stated that police officers were deployed to all schools mentioned in the reports and that no attack occurred in any educational institution within the state.
He assured parents and residents that security personnel remained vigilant and were working continuously to safeguard lives and property across Niger State.
The latest attack in Borgu, however, has renewed concerns about the persistent threat posed by armed groups operating in parts of the state despite ongoing security efforts.
