LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian screen legend Patience Ozokwo, widely known as Mama G, has revealed the reason behind her memorable portrayal of some of Nollywood’s most feared and controversial characters.
The veteran actress said her decision to take on villainous roles was never about being disliked by audiences.
Mama G explained that it stemmed from a desire to shine a light on social problems many people choose to ignore.
For decades, the actress has become one of Nollywood’s most recognizable faces, earning praise for her convincing performances as a strict mother or in-law, manipulative relative or wife and powerful antagonist.

Describing the feeling as “bold,” she disclosed that those roles serve a bigger purpose beyond entertainment.
According to Mama G, portraying wrongdoing on screen gave her the platform to address controversial real-life issues and reach more people.
Reflecting on her career, she said, “I felt bold to expose the ills of society. These things happen and nobody wants to expose them, so I’m exposing them. So I’m extremely proud of myself and mama G lovers.”
Furthermore, she noted that storytelling remains one of the most effective ways to address moral conflicts and societal challenges, especially within the Nigerian film industry where movies often mirror everyday realities.
