APC Not Affected By Defections Ahead Of Governorship Poll – Chieftain

ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has dismissed concerns over recent defections from the party, insisting that the development poses no threat to its structure or electoral prospects ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Oyintiloye’s reaction followed the resignation of several APC members in the state, particularly loyalists of former Osun State Governor and ex-National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who are reportedly considering joining the Accord Party and supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

The wave of resignations has sparked discussions about unity within the APC and its readiness for the forthcoming governorship contest.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye described the defections as a normal occurrence in politics, especially during election periods, stressing that the APC remains focused and determined to reclaim power in the state.

According to him, the departure of a few members does not diminish the strength of the party or weaken its grassroots support across Osun.

“The APC in Osun is bigger than any individual or group of individuals. Our party is built on a solid foundation that has endured for decades. We have a resilient structure, loyal membership, and an ever-expanding support base across the state.

“Those who think the APC has been weakened by the exit of a few members are completely out of touch with the realities on the ground.

“The strength of our party resides in the people, and the people remain firmly with the APC,” he said.

Oyintiloye maintained that the party’s organisational structure remains intact and capable of delivering victory at the polls, despite efforts by political opponents to portray the recent resignations as a setback.

He expressed confidence that the APC would continue to attract support from voters across the state as preparations intensify for the governorship election.
