LAGOS, NIGERIA (VOICE OF NAIJA) – El-Kanemi Warriors produced a stunning comeback from three goals down to defeat Bendel Insurance 8-7 on penalties and book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup on Saturday, recovering from the brink of elimination before prevailing in a dramatic shootout.
The round of 16 clash at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Moshood Abiola National Stadium ended 3-3 after regulation time. Bendel Insurance dominated the first half and led 3-0 at the break.
El-Kanemi Warriors responded after the restart, scoring three unanswered goals to force a shootout. They converted 8 of their penalties to 7 from the Benin side.

Head Coach Kabiru Dogo praised his players’ fighting spirit. “We were 3-0 down in the first half, but after the break the team came out well prepared. We fought back to make it 3-3 before winning on penalties,” Dogo told NAN.
“The miracle of that match was repeated here today. They showed how much they wanted the victory,” he added.
Dogo said any team in the quarter-finals is a title contender and backed El-Kanemi to go all the way despite beating former champions Bendel Insurance. He also expressed confidence the NPFL side can compete anywhere “with the right atmosphere”.
El-Kanemi will face Sokoto United next after Sokoto beat Adamawa United 2-0 in the other round of 16 results.
Other quarter-final fixtures includes Wikki Tourists vs Flight FC, Nasarawa United vs Plateau United, Ikorodu City vs Barau FC.
