LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Former Barcelona defender and club legend Albert Ferrer turns 56 today.
Ferrer was one of the finest right-backs of his generation and a key figure in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Born on June 6, 1970,
Ferrer came through FC Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia, and played for the senior team from 1990 to 1998.

Nicknamed “Chapi,” he was known as a fast and tough defender. Under manager Johan Cruyff, he was part of the iconic Barcelona side that won five La Liga titles and secured the club’s first European Cup in 1992.
In 1998, Ferrer moved to England to join Chelsea, where he played until 2003.
During his time at the club, he helped strengthen the defence and contributed to Chelsea’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Ferrer also represented Spain at international level and won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
After retiring from professional football, he went into coaching and football management.
