ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Ashimiyu Ajibola, has survived an assassination attempt after he was shot by suspected gunmen in the state capital.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday along the MDS area of Osogbo, where the politician was ambushed by two armed men riding on a motorcycle.
According to police authorities, Ajibola sustained gunshot injuries during the incident but managed to escape death and was quickly rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, noting that the attack was an attempted murder.

The statement said police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving distress calls, while tactical and conventional teams secured the area and evacuated the victim to a medical facility.
“Upon receiving the distress report, the police immediately mobilised tactical and conventional teams to the scene,” the statement noted.
It added that preliminary investigations had begun, with exhibits recovered from the scene undergoing forensic analysis to aid the ongoing probe.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and ordered a high-level investigation to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
He also directed intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects, assuring that the command would unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government, through the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, called on security agencies to ensure no stone is left unturned in identifying and arresting those responsible.
Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend the attackers.
