ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking in separate intelligence-led operations that also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and suspected illicit drugs.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining its crackdown on criminal elements through proactive policing, intelligence gathering and continuous operations across the state.

The statement noted that operatives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit on May 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., acted on credible intelligence and raided a drinking spot along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, where they arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers.

The suspects were identified as Ogbonna Chinonso, 22, and Nnachi Cypril, 35.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition and one live cartridge.

In a separate operation earlier the same day, at about 4:30 p.m., VCRU operatives stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, following credible intelligence.

During the raid, officers arrested a suspected drug dealer, Izunna Ani, 36, and recovered large quantities of substances believed to be the illicit drugs popularly known as “Loud” and “Kolos.”

The police said investigations into the cases are ongoing and that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The statement added that CP Giwa commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance and commitment, which led to the successful operations.

He also reiterated the command’s determination to rid Enugu State of violent crimes and other criminal activities, while urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and actionable information to assist law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
