ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has urged the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to select former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Eze said Amaechi possesses the political experience, grassroots structure and strategic leadership qualities needed to strengthen the party’s chances in the next general election.
According to him, Amaechi’s role in previous national campaigns, particularly the coalition that unseated a sitting president in 2015, demonstrates why he remains a political force that cannot be overlooked.
“You need Amaechi now because the way he managed the campaign that ousted a sitting President, Goodluck Jonathan, proves that he is not a figure any serious-minded fellow in pursuit of the exalted office of the President of this country can ignore,” Eze stated.
He argued that Amaechi’s extensive political network and support base across the country make him a strong contender for the vice-presidential position.

While acknowledging that several names may be under consideration for the role, Eze maintained that overlooking Amaechi could prove costly for the party’s broader political objectives.
“I have seen some of the recommendations being presented before you. While they are great, I must state that if Amaechi is not selected, it may have dire consequences on our common vision,” he added.
Eze further warned that excluding the former Rivers governor could create disaffection among some supporters and stakeholders within the ADC.
In the statement issued on Wednesday, the ADC stalwart also praised Atiku for his efforts to unite members of the party after the presidential primary.
He specifically commended the former Vice President for reaching out to key contenders who participated in the race for the party’s ticket, describing the move as a demonstration of leadership, inclusiveness and political maturity.
“By visiting Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Alhaji Hayatu-Deen, your main contenders for the ADC presidential ticket, you have proven that you are a team player,” Eze said.
He noted that Atiku’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer reflected his longstanding commitment to democratic governance and national development.
According to him, the former Vice President’s experience in public service and national politics would inspire confidence among Nigerians seeking stability, progress and effective leadership.
Eze expressed optimism that a united ADC, built on inclusiveness and strategic partnerships, would be better positioned to present a credible alternative to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
