Lagos, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure received a boost as the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for key operational achievements that are enhancing grid reliability and electricity supply across the country.
In a statement made available to the media, the minister praised TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, describing the project as a significant milestone that will increase transmission capacity and improve power delivery within the Federal Capital Territory.
Tegbe also applauded the coordinated efforts of TCN and AEDC in responding to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer that disrupted electricity supply to parts of Abuja last Friday.
According to the minister, both organisations swiftly deployed technical teams and resources, restoring power to affected customers within 24 hours.
He described the response as a model of effective inter-agency collaboration and evidence of the Ministry of Power’s commitment to delivering efficient, citizen-focused services across the electricity value chain.

The minister further commended NDPHC, led by its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for successfully reviving the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State. The facility, a major asset developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had remained inactive for three years.
With the plant now restored, it is expected to supply up to 375MW to the national grid, strengthening electricity availability in the South-East and contributing to improved grid stability nationwide.
Tegbe noted that the achievements demonstrate the growing capacity of power sector institutions to deliver tangible results that support economic growth, industrial productivity and improved quality of life for Nigerians.
He assured workers and agencies across the sector that excellence, innovation and productivity would continue to receive recognition under his leadership, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating investments and reforms aimed at expanding access to reliable electricity.
The minister urged all stakeholders in the industry to sustain the momentum and remain focused on the collective objective of providing stable and affordable power to homes, businesses and industries across the country.
