ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has taken responsibility for the continued presence of cattle on major roads and streets in Abuja, admitting that the situation persists despite ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s capital.
Speaking on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, he expressed regret over the development and assured residents that the administration is intensifying measures to address the challenge.
“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” he said.
He explained that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is pushing infrastructure development across the entire territory, noting that attention is not limited to the city centre but also extends to satellite towns and area councils.
According to him, ongoing projects cut across key sectors such as road construction, water supply, and housing, aimed at improving connectivity and living conditions.

“Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he added.
Wike also disclosed that project commissioning activities would be held in collaboration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of events marking the administration’s third anniversary in office.
“To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he said.
He maintained that completed and ongoing road projects have improved access and security in several communities across the FCT, while insisting that residents are beginning to feel the impact of reforms.
The presence of roaming cattle on Abuja roads has remained a recurring concern, with residents often raising alarm over safety risks, traffic obstruction, and urban management challenges.
