ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A 28-year-old man, Daniel Essen, on Tuesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly threatening a child to steal.
Essen, whose residential address was not stated is standing trial on a two-count charge of causing a breach of peace and threat.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendant committed the offences at Alhaji Bala Crescent, in Isheri Osun, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening to kill one David Ogada, a 12-year-old boy, if he failed to steal money from his father’s purse.
He said that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168(d), and 56(1) Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.
The section 168(d) prescribes a term of two years imprisonment for breach of peace, while section 56(1) prescribes a term of one year imprisonment for threat.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Dosumu granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until June 20, for mention.
