ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent comments on the security situation in the state, describing them as a misrepresentation of the constitutional responsibilities of state governors.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesman, Olawale Sadare, the party faulted Makinde’s claim that his administration is constrained in tackling insecurity because security agencies are controlled by the Federal Government.

The APC described the governor’s remarks as “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude,” insisting that he cannot evade responsibility for the security challenges facing Oyo State.

According to the opposition party, Makinde’s comments amounted to an attempt to shift blame for the worsening insecurity in the state, arguing that he still bears responsibility for protecting lives and property within his jurisdiction.

The party went further to call for Makinde’s resignation, suggesting that his deputy should complete the remainder of the administration’s tenure.

“Parochial leaders like Makinde pose a grave danger to the growth and development of the Nigerian society, and it is important for the electorate to avoid them in future elections,” the statement said.

The APC’s reaction followed remarks credited to Makinde during his acceptance speech as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan, where he expressed frustration over the limited control governors have over security agencies.

Makinde had argued that state governors do not have full authority over security structures, a position the APC strongly rejected, insisting that he must take full responsibility for security outcomes in the state.

The exchange adds to ongoing national debates about restructuring Nigeria’s security architecture and the extent of powers held by state governments in addressing rising insecurity across the country.
