ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, accusing the party of manipulating its recently concluded primary election in favour of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his political allies.
Lawal announced his resignation in a statement issued on Monday, describing the exercise as āmassively riggedā and alleging that the process was deliberately structured to guarantee the emergence of Atiku and candidates aligned with him.
According to the former SGF, the conduct of the primary election fell short of democratic standards and denied other aspirants a fair opportunity to compete.

He maintained that the outcome of the exercise had been predetermined, alleging that party officials and influential stakeholders manipulated the process to achieve a desired result.
The development represents a major setback for the ADC following the conclusion of its primaries, with Lawal’s exit adding to the growing controversy surrounding the party’s internal electoral process.
Lawal’s resignation comes amid heightened political activities and realignments ahead of future elections, although the ADC had yet to officially respond to his allegations at the time of filing this report.
