LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeats superstar Davido has responded to criticism over his friendship with Seyi Tinubu, stressing that their relationship does not stop him from speaking out about Nigeria’s growing challenges.
The singer recently criticized entertainers for staying silent while many Nigerians struggle with hardship and injustice.
Davido had appealed to public figures to use their voices to speak on issues affecting the country.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers, we dey fuck up, I wouldn’t lie, including me. We need to speak up, it’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he tweeted.

However, his comments quickly sparked backlash online.
One X user @PrincessLuna accused Davido of being insincere, claiming that he was close to President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, and allegedly belonged to the “City Boys” group chat.
In response, the “Timeless” hitmaker firmly denied belonging to any political group and hit back at critics, recalling how they “rained curses” on him when he previously spoke out about the situation in Nigeria during an interview with foreign media.
“I no dey part of any City Boy group. When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me,” Davido fired back.

He explained that although he has been friends with Seyi Tinubu for many years, the friendship does not influence his views or stop him from criticizing issues he believes deserve attention.
“I’ve been friends with ST for years, and that’s where it stops. I call and complain to him all the time, even in person,” he added.
Furthermore, the award-winning singer reminded critics that he has repeatedly spoken about insecurity, violence, and other national concerns.
He noted that he often faced criticism from the same online audience demanding that celebrities speak out.
Despite the backlash and divided opinions, Davido maintained that he has consistently used his platform to advocate for peace, unity, improved security, and better governance in Nigeria.
