ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of measures to strengthen welfare, boost morale, and reward professionalism, diligence, and commitment to duty.
The Force Headquarters announced this in a statement on Saturday through the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
According to the statement, the exercise covers Commands and Formations nationwide and includes the promotion of 165 Sergeants to Inspectors, 73 Corporals to Sergeants, and 17,714 Constables to Corporals.
The IG said timely promotion remains a key component of the Force’s human resource management system and an important tool for motivating officers to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to enhance personnel welfare, boost morale, and reward diligence, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
“The promotion exercise, which cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide, comprises the elevation of 165 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables to the rank of Corporal,” the statement partly read.
He stated that the promotion of deserving officers reflects the current leadership’s commitment to merit, career advancement, and institutional growth.
Disu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibility, discipline, and professional conduct.
He further encouraged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and continue to serve with integrity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.
He added that officers must remain professional and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
