ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has emerged unopposed as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the next Abia State governorship election, securing the party’s ticket during the primary election held on Saturday.

The governor was officially declared the winner by the Labour Party’s National Organising Secretary, Mrs. Oluchi Okpara, who served as the returning officer for the governorship primary conducted at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

In the senatorial contest, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, also secured the Labour Party’s ticket for what would be his sixth term bid in the Senate.

Abaribe, who won his current seat in the 2023 election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), later defected to the Labour Party after a brief stay in the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Similarly, Senator Darlington Nwokocha emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District. Nwokocha had previously lost his Senate seat after he was displaced by the incumbent senator, Austin Akobundu, following a Court of Appeal judgment.

Also emerging successfully from the party’s primaries was Amobi Ogah, alongside all serving Labour Party members of the House of Representatives from Abia State, who secured tickets to seek re-election.
